3 Commitments to Supporting Your Heart Today ❣️

Did you know that on average every 40 seconds someone in the United States has a Heart Attack?

Personally, I have a family history of heart disease on both my mom and my dad’s side, so the topic of preventing heart disease and maintaining overall great health is something I take very seriously. 

Our Grandpa Bob had his first heart attack at age 47 in 1985, and it was this incident that sent him searching for an all-natural remedy for his Blood Pressure, Atherosclerosis, and Cardiovascular Support.

Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) also called coronary heart disease, or ischemic heart disease,  is the most common type of heart disease in the United States. 

Risk Factors for CAD Include

  2. High Blood Cholesterol 
  3. Smoking

Other medical conditions such as diabetes, being overweight or obese, unhealthy diet, lack of physical activity, and excessive alcohol consumption can also put you at a higher risk for heart disease.  

A family history of heart disease also increases your risk for CAD.  

Coronary Artery Disease is caused by plaque building up in the walls of the coronary arteries, whose job it is to supply blood to the heart and the rest of the body.  This plaque build up causes the arteries to narrow over time, which partially or completely blocks the blood flow, a process known as atherosclerosis.

CAD is the most common cause of a heart attack.  

A heart attack, also called a myocardial infarction (MI), happens when a part of the heart doesn’t get enough blood (due to the plaque build up). 

Symptoms of A Heart Attack 

  1. Chest Pain or Discomfort 
  2. Feeling weak, light headed, or faint
  3. Pain or discomfort in the jaw, neck or back 
  4. Pain or discomfort in one of both arms or shoulders 
  5. Shortness of breath

Some of the more common symptoms associated in women are nausea, vomiting and fatigue.  

**If you notice the symptoms of a heart attack in yourself or someone else you should immediately call 911.**

The sooner you can get treatment, the sooner you can reduce the amount of damage done to your heart

I am very conscious about the foods I am putting in my body.  Food should be fuel that makes you feel good!  

If you are looking to try and eat healthier and lose weight an easy place to start is to CUT THE SUGAR!  Try swapping out soda (even the diet ones) for a flavored seltzer or water.  

When reading labels at the store look for foods without sugar in the ingredient list!  Some foods will contain naturally occurring sugars, it's when it's ADDED that you want to avoid it.

What commitment can you make right now to improve the quality of the foods you are eating?

2. Commitment to ACTIVITY

The second best thing you can do for your body is MOVE!  Our bodies were made to move. Exercise has been shown to help with blood pressure, cholesterol, and managing your stress levels.  

Exercise doesn't have to be “go to the gym and do the elliptical” (sure you can do that if you like it) but there are SO many ways to move your body like going for a walk with a friend, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, taking a yoga class, lifting weights, gardening, even playing outside with the kids or grandkids! 

In my mind the way to keep my heart healthy, is to keep myself healthy - both mentally and physically.
