9 Steps to Supporting Your Immune Health During February Flu Season

9 Steps to Supporting Your Immune Health During February Flu Season

With all that is going around right now, from the virus in the news to it being the heart of flu season, it’s especially important now more than ever that we all are taking precautionary steps to support our bodies’ immune system.

While the flu is detected year round in the United States, the flu virus is most common during the fall and winter seasons, and currently we are in the heart of the flu season.

Historically the “peak month of flu activity” has been February, with the highest percentage of respiratory specimens testing positive.

As most of us probably already know that influenza or “flu” for short is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses.  These viruses can cause anywhere from mild to severe illness and in serious situations can result in hospitalization or death.

There are two main types of flu virus: Type A & Type B, and they are the ones that most commonly spread in people and are responsible for the flu epidemics each year.

*It’s important to note that the flu is different from a cold, in that it usually comes on suddenly.*

According to the CDC’s website, people who have the flu often exhibit all or some of the following symptoms:

  • Fever (feeling feverish/chills) *Not everyone with the flu will have a fever*
  • Cough
  • Sore Throat
  • Runny or Stuffy Nose
  • Muscle or Body Aches
  • Headaches
  • Fatigue/Tiredness
  • Vomiting and Diarrhea (more common in children than adults)

Symptoms can begin approximately 2 days after a person has been exposed to the virus, but can range from 1 to 4 days.

Many experts believe that the flu spreads mainly through tiny droplets made when infected people cough, sneeze or talk.  Also, a person might get the flu by touching an object or surface that has the flu virus on it and then touching their mouth or eyes.

Here are 9 Steps to Supporting Immune Health During Flu Season

  1. Get the flu vaccine
  2. Wash hands & teach children good hand washing habits
  3. Stay at home when you are sick & limit contact with others
  4. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, mouth
  5. Clean and disinfect surfaces or objects
  6. Get plenty of rest
  7. Eat a healthy and rich diet
  8. Drink enough water
  9. And I give my immune system the extra support it needs by doubling up on my OPCXtra and XtraVite

I personally have been fortunate enough to have never had the flu, but for years in the past I frequently came down with a nasty head cold that would basically last all winter.

I pretty much got used to always feeling sick in the winter, and it became my new normal.

It wasn’t until I started taking OPCXtra consistently 3 years ago that I noticed a huge difference in how I felt.

Knock on wood, I haven’t had to miss a day of work in over 3 years and I truly believe OPCXtra, along with my other healthy habits have helped my immune system to stay strong, when others around me seemed to always get sick.

More recently I have found the XTRA benefits of pairing OPCXtra & XtraVite and I have made that my new morning combo!

OPCs as antioxidants combat the free radicals that negatively impact our immune health and support our immune system, provide allergy relief, and promote a healthy response to all these bugs going around!

Here is an awesome comment we received on Facebook just today from Karen R.

“Love my OPC XTRA . It's still amazing me at how it works… Thanking God for the OPC XTRA during this cold a flu season. Seems like everyone around me got sick. I switched to twice a day on OPC when I felt like my throat was getting sore. So far I'm healthy and hopefully past the cold and flu season without getting sick.”

The best offense is a good defense! It’s important to be educated and diligent about taking care of yourself, feeling “sick” or under the weather doesn’t have to be your “normal.”
